George Jones Brooks letters : San Francisco, Calif. : ALS, 1869-1881.

Ten letters to Brooks's niece, Nellie Goodhue, and one letter to his sister, Mary Brooks Goodhue. The first seven letters are written during a year-long trip to Calif. taken with another niece, also known as "Nellie," Ellen Brooks Goodhue. In these letters, Brooks describes their social life and lodgings in San Francisco, as well as shorter trips to San Raphael and Yosemite. The next three letters, written between Feb. 1871 and Feb. 1875, further describe Brooks's social engagements in San Francisco during subsequent stays. The letter (6 p.) to Brooks's sister, dated Jan. 2, 1881, describes a visit to Pancho Springs, Colo. where Nellie Goodhue was then living with her husband. Includes typed biographical sketch (2 leaves) supplied by the donor from a secondary source.
